Fit to take part in Sports Activity Policy

The doctors at the practice will often not be in a position to complete “fit to take part in….” questionnaire forms. We have no special qualifications in sports medicine and therefore are not covered by our medicolegal insurance should something happen to you when you are taking part in the specified activity.

We believe physical exercise is almost always beneficial, providing a sensible training schedule has been undertaken. The huge number of organisations now asking for forms to be completed by GPs is causing a significant burden to a very stretched service. When possible we will complete forms but may need to amend them so we do not put ourselves at risk of legal action. If a formal opinion of fitness is required this will need to be obtained from a specialist in sports medicine.
