Clinics and Services

Ante-natal clinic – for care during pregnancy

The community midwife helps to look after women during pregnancy along with GPs  and hospital consultants. There are regular antenatal clinics every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.  Patients are seen by appointment arranged with your midwife.

For new pregnancies, please self refer to the midwifery team by contacting them on 0131 536 2009.

Baby Immunisation Clinic

Clinics are held in practice each Wednesday. We strongly recommend that all children be protected against serious disease by getting their childhood injections. We are always happy to discuss any concern you may have about these injections. Appointments are sent to parents for the immunisation clinic, which is run by the Community Vaccination Team.

Cervical Smear Tests

Women between the ages of 25 and 60 years are advised to have this important test to help prevent cervical cancer. They can be carried out by the practice nurse. Please contact reception to arrange an appointment.

Child Health Surveillance

Health visitors carry out most of the regular reviews.

6-week baby checks are carried out by the GPs on Tuesday and Wedsnesday mornings.

Post-natal checks are also offered at these times.

Contraception

A full range of contraception services are available.

Contraceptive Pills

Contraceptive pills can be prescribed by our Practice Nurse Dawn Yorkston and Nurse Practitioner Yvonne McQueen. If you are already on a contraceptive pill and need to order more this can be requested by completing the Contraceptive Pill review form.

Depo Contraceptive Injections

Depo contraceptive injections or sayana press can be administered by Practice Nurse Dawn Yorkston.

Nexplanon Implants

Nexplanon implants can be inserted and removed by Practice Nurse Dawn Yorkston or Drs Anna Beedel, Louise Aithie and Anna McKinlay.

Coils (intra-uterine systems and copper intra-uterine devices)

Dr Anna Beedel runs a coil clinic every month, if you would like a coil insertion or change of coil please complete the form or contact reception to book into this clinic.

Important

The licence for contraception for intra uterine systems (eg Mirena coils) is now 8 years. However, if you are using Mirena as part of HRT it must still be changed every 5 years.

Coil removals

If you would like a coil to be removed but do not need another coil then please book an appointment with Dawn or Rebecca (please be aware it is important to avoid sexual intercourse for 7 days before coil removal).

Vasectomy

This is when the tubes, which allow passage of sperm from the testes to the penis, are blocked and cut to prevent sperm from getting out. It is a small operation which can be done at our clinics. You just need a local anaesthetic injection to make it painless. If you are interested in vasectomy please look at the self-referral link below.

More information and self-referrals can be found on our sexual health page

CTAC Service

CTACS is a new way of receiving nursing care. Rather than using our own nurses you will be seen by nurses from East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership and NHS staff (most of the time you will be seen at our practice).

Services include:

  • Pre-chemotherapy bloods
  • Removal of sutures/staples
  • Wound care
  • B12 injections

To make an appointment for any of the above please call CTAC on 0300 790 6292 between 8:30am to 4:30pm

Immunisations

All vaccinations and immunisations (including for travelling) for Edinburgh and the Lothians are now being delivered by NHS Lothian and the four local health and social care partnerships, rather than GP practices.

Immunisations provide vital protection to you and your family against illnesses which can be serious or even fatal. When you become eligible for a vaccination, a letter will most likely be sent directly to you (or to parents or carers).

If you or a family member has missed a vaccination, or all of the necessary doses, you should try to arrange this as soon as possible. Below are details of the vaccinations available and how to access these.

NHS Lothian always aims to make it as easy as possible for you to get the vaccinations you need to stay healthy. For more information on immunisations generally and why these are important, you can visit NHS Inform.

Specialist Clinics

Lynne Drysdale is our substance misuse CPN. If this service is required, a GP can make a referral for you.
